Happy Book Release Day to AJ Walkley!

VUTO by A.J. Walkley, is finally here!

The highly anticipated title that led to a successful Kickstarter campaign just a few months ago is available today on PAPERBACK, KINDLE, NOOK and IBOOKS!

Vuto is only 17 when her third child dies, mere days after birth.

Malawian tradition prevents men from considering a child their own until it has survived for two weeks. Frustrated at not being able to speak to her husband, Solomon, about all three of the children she’s had to bury alone, Vuto forces him to acknowledge the dead baby. Her rejection of tradition causes Solomon and the village elders to banish Vuto from the only home she’s ever known. She seeks refuge in the hut of U.S. Peace Corps volunteer Samantha Brennan, where Solomon discovers his wife has not left as she was told.

When Solomon arrives in the night to attack Vuto, Samantha disregards her oath to remain uninvolved in village politics and interjects herself into the center of the conflict, defending Vuto and killing Solomon in the process.

The women go on the run from Vuto’s village and the Peace Corps, encountering physical, ethical and cultural struggles along the way.

ENDORSEMENTS

"In Vuto, A.J. Walkley has vividly captured the idealism of First World volunteers, as well as the cultural differences they encounter in the countries where they are placed, giving readers a rare glimpse into the issues that aid organizations are fraught with, but which rarely make it into the news."
— Rex Pickett, author of Sideways and Sideways (the play)

"Vuto is that rare combination of creative genius and personal knowledge so necessary for a reader to not only thoroughly enjoy, but also learn. Well done, Ms. Walkley!"
— Jeff Mudgett, author of Bloodstains

"Walkley guides the reader along a path known only to a very few in the world. Her knowledge of the Malawian culture adds such depth to her words that it is hard to put this book down. Vuto is a truly gripping story—a real treasure of a read.”
— Van Heerling, author of Malaika.

"Vuto is a piece of work that takes you for a short time on a journey you would otherwise never dream about. Although it is a fictional work, it is also based on real experience and real facts, and true plights of people in societies foreign to our own. It is a book that tells you, you can take a stand and make a difference if you follow your heart no matter what the circumstances may be."
— Meghan Wolf, Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, Malawi

"The detail that Ms. Walkley captures in Vuto makes you feel you're inside Vuto's world, seeing everything unfold inside her head, and allowing you to experience the personal and moral dilemmas she faces."
— Tracy Lee, international correspondent

"Ms. Walkley's novel is your passport to a fascinating world of foreign lands, cultures and emotions. The writing is as captivating as it is spellbinding - once you start this journey, it is very hard to put the book down. You will turn each page quickly in anticipation of the vivid colors she paints with her words."
— Kim Estes, producer/actor/director/professor

Happy Book Release Day to Ann Marie Kucic

Push You, Pull Me

by Ann Marie Kucic

Calandra-Callie-Evans is a typical fourteen-year-old freshman. She has an annoying little sister and a large list of expectations to live up to. She’s starting high school and has to learn the ropes some way or another. She may have expected all this homework and a gigantic book bag, but she never expected to bump into Jaysen Jackson the senior.

Jaysen Jackson is failing high school; or at least that’s what he wants to do. However, that may be a hard task to accomplish with his father being the superintendent of the school district and his father’s girlfriend being the principal of the high school. When he manages to bump into Callie, the interesting new freshman, he realizes that some of his hatred for ninth graders might not be as big as he once thought it was.

With Callie gaining new friends and enemies and Jaysen reconnecting with older ones, high school seems to be flying by for the both of them. They discover that some things in life aren’t so bad when you have someone to push while you pull. But, when two people are trying so hard to help each other, someone is bound to get hurt.

God and the Garden – Devotionals for Fruitful Living by Lilka Raphael

Lilka Raphael, author of P is for Prayer - A Devotional, now has a new title available! God and the Garden was released on March 30th.

About God and the Garden:

One of the most pivotal events in the Bible occurred in a Garden. God placed Adam and Eve in a garden. It is in the context of a garden that we too can examine God’s care of us and how gardening principles applied in our own lives can allow each of us to reap the bountiful harvest God intends.

Sometimes we need to recognize when pruning may be necessary to promote better growth. Other times may require that we weed out a few things or even better establish our roots to bring about the changes that will promote us on our proper path.

There are times in our lives we may each need a bit of Miracle Grow and at others we may need more Pest Control. Sometimes we may have to endure stormy weather and at others we require help navigating our clear skies.

No matter what season you may be in, God and the Garden will help you explore how to make the most of it. Topics such as reaping and sowing, being fruitful and digging deep will prompt you to search yourself and seek God’s very best.

Man may plant or work the land but it is truly God who makes a garden grow. You don’t have to wait for another season. There are changes you can make in your own personal “garden” right now. Reap. Sow. Weed. Prune.

Bloom where you are planted now

God and the Garden is available on paperback and ebooks

Happy Book Release Day to Lilka Raphael!

P is for Prayer - A Devotional by Lilka Raphael

"P is for Prayer" is a devotional that takes a different perspective on exploring God's Word and the power available to anyone willing to take a proactive approach to living the best life possible. As an accessible devotional, it strives to engage the average reader who’s looking for a little more out of life.

Prayer is illustrated as a proficient weapon to wage in life's battles, turned to not as a last resort, but instead as a first line of offense in fighting for what really matters most. Prayer, along with other topics such as praise, perspective, patience and peace are examined and explored. They are defined by the role each plays in facilitating spiritual growth and unleashing untapped potential, all in the midst of life's daily demands.

The book is intended to encourage those who may have given in, or find themselves low on hope, to dig in and dig out of whatever depths they may be currently experiencing. Practical definitions and Biblical scriptures illuminate various principles to be considered and implemented in the continual search for progress, promotion and peace of mind.

Real life examples and scriptural references encourage the reader to strive for greater heights and accessible gains, without preachy overtones or magnifying spiritual inadequacies.

"P is for Prayer" strives to unlock the potential that often lies dormant in each of us. Perseverance, prosperity, purpose, and other topics are examined as precepts to be implemented for better outcomes. P is for all of these things and so much more, but most importantly P is for prayer.

About the Author:

As a licensed pharmacist for over twenty years, Lilka Raphael has observed and learned that prayer and words of encouragement hold more healing and restorative power than any prescription alone that she's ever dispensed.  She also believes that the power of prayer can improve anyone's journey, whatever it might be, and be an aid to people in all aspects of their daily lives.

A native of Tallahassee, Florida, and a graduate of Florida A & M University, Lilka enjoys helping people, and finds joy in dispensing an encouraging word whenever possible, along with pills and ointments.  Inspired by Biblical studies, her sharing of insights, and communicating with others about the awesome power of prayer, and what God is capable of doing, has become a calling.  Her testimonies include sharing her personal experience with Autism, and how the grace of God more than compensates for personal inadequacies.

As an avid gardener, plants and flowers tend to absorb a great portion of free time when she's not pursuing literary interests or engaging in family activities.  A long term affair with chocolate fuels a hobby for baking and a zeal for trying new recipes.  She has yet to meet a cookie she doesn’t like.

She currently resides east of Atlanta and practices community pharmacy in Covington, Georgia.  She enjoys living in the country with Rod, her husband of twenty years, along with their two teenage sons.  They happily share their abode with one Shetland Sheepdog, Noel, and one bad kitty, Lucky.
