<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
My husband and I wanted to adopt two cats that were also
siblings, so they would have each other.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I am a big fan of animations, and I
especially like the sidekicks.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>One
of my favorite Disney movies is Mulan, and I really like Mooshu and
Cricket.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So on August 14, 2009, we
went to a shelter and spent a couple of hours in the kitty room.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I loved all of the kitties there, but
one in particular stole my heart.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>The shelter named her Lexie, and she was the only female kitten.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She came over and curled up in my
lap and slept there for at least an hour.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>I knew she was ours, and she would be named Mooshu, Moo for short.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We adopted her brother (Tux was his
shelter name), and my stepdaughter named him Einstein because she thought he
looked like a “little old man - the way the white was around his nose and mouth, and the white whiskers all around his face”.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
They are loving, sweet and curious, and they have very
different personalities.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Einstein is quite talkative
and will talk even more when it is close to mealtime; sometimes, he will play
fetch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Moo squeaks more than
meows, and she loves to hide underneath the coffee table and wave one paw at
your feet, like the monster under the bed.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They love catnip, catnip toys, and bouncy balls.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Their purrs are one of my most favorite
sounds, and the spot between their ears seems like the softest fur and is my
favorite spot to stroke.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
I was inspired to write about them because of my love for
animals, storytelling, children, and books.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>To me, when someone shares a book with a child, they share
an act of love. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Einstein and Moo series</i> currently has
two books out: <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Einstein and the Leaf</i>
and <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Moo and the Case of the Mistaken
Identity</i>.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The series will also have stories about them
together.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Einstein
and the Leaf</i> is about a perfect fall day with children playing outside in
the leaves while Einstein watches from inside.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When the children come in and a few leaves come along with
them, Einstein sees his moment and is ready to play!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Moo and the Case of
the Mistaken Identity</i> is about Moo playing with a little ball that bounces
against a glass fireplace when she notices a shadow.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Who could this be?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>She must determine if she sees herself or another kitty.</div>

This is what Christmas means to us.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: right;">
<a href="http://shop.rsplaunchpad.com/images/13854828347561501471971.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://shop.rsplaunchpad.com/images/13854828347561501471971.jpeg" height="146" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The most important part of Christmas is something Ayoe
brought with her from Denmark. It is called “Hygge”. There is no English word
that hygge can be translated into, because it is simply more than a word, it is
a feeling and a state of mind, body and soul. It is coziness, love, quality
time and usually accompanied with great food. :)</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
That being said, it doesn’t mean that hygge can’t be learned
by someone from outside of Denmark. It is in fact very easy.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First things first: Slow it right down!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This goes for everything we do, cooking, spending time together and just being,
not doing. After all we are human BEINGS, not human DOINGS. :)</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Secondly we must get in touch with friends and family on a
personal level, not just through a text or email, but face to face and actually
spend time together and talk, play games, cook delicious foods and sit down
together and eat it SLOWLY! (put your phones away too).</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Third, enjoy it, have fun, be present! There is nothing less
hyggeligt than spending time with someone who is so busy, they don’t have time
to spend quality time with you. We know everyone is busy, but is that really
so? Could it be that we make ourselves busier to seem more important? How about
we just relax a little and spend our energy on where it really matters: on our
loved ones! Wouldn’t that be awesome. We like that a lot. :)</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
This is how we love to celebrate Christmas, and any time of
year for that matter. We take it slow and enjoy every moment of it. We really
love spending time together in the kitchen cooking up some yummy Christmas
treats and also every day foods. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
You can read about some of our favourites on our blog <a href="http://www.threemorebites.com/">www.threemorebites.com</a> and please let
us know your favourite Christmas foods, we’ll be happy to try it out.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>

He had no other choice but to fly to Europe to unravel a twenty-five year old mystery. But he was not prepared for the near death adventure that would lead him across Western Europe into the Communist Zone of East Germany to the town of Sonneberg.<br /><br /><i>Return to Sonneberg</i> is a novel based on an episode in the life of John “Rusty” Russell a U. S. State Department diplomat who is unwittingly pulled into a scheme to return a spy, who was thought to have been dead for twenty-five years, from Russia to the United States.<br /><br />The year is 1988, a time of new relations between the Soviet Union and the United States. Rusty is stationed at the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. and working in the fray of the fast moving developments between the United States and the Russians. The future of the new relationship between the two countries depends on the outcome of his mission. At the outset the plan seemed simple enough but not all plans, whether simple or not, turn out as anticipated. Rusty did not realize when he accepted the mission that it could cost him his life. </span><br />

<div style="color: #402d2d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">
Vuto is only 17 when her third child dies, mere days after birth.<br /><br />Malawian tradition prevents men from considering a child their own until it has survived for two weeks. Frustrated at not being able to speak to her husband, Solomon, about all three of the children she’s had to bury alone, Vuto forces him to acknowledge the dead baby. Her rejection of tradition causes Solomon and the village elders to banish Vuto from the only home she’s ever known. She seeks refuge in the hut of U.S. Peace Corps volunteer Samantha Brennan, where Solomon discovers his wife has not left as she was told.<br /><br />When Solomon arrives in the night to attack Vuto, Samantha disregards her oath to remain uninvolved in village politics and interjects herself into the center of the conflict, defending Vuto and killing Solomon in the process.<br /><br />The women go on the run from Vuto’s village and the Peace Corps, encountering physical, ethical and cultural struggles along the way.</div>

Just like many other institutions in our society, they have changed and grown as society has changed and grown. Based on his personal experiences and stories he has collected, Lewis Stockham reveals the reality of working in the modern public library.<br /><br />Libraries are not always quiet and peaceful. They can be loud, crazy and full of quite colorful characters. The stories contained in this book are meant to entertain but also to inform people. Stockham blends wit, humor, and his own philosophy into these unique experiences.<br />

These copies were not translated into English until 1821 at Oxford University. This high degree ritual - titled The Royal Arch of Enoch - documents the recovery of the “Lost Word of a Master Mason”, the Name of God. It is this ritual in particular that has defined, among other things, the American national character. The Royal Arch of Enoch also documents the symbolic restoration of the sun as the premier icon in all of Freemasonry and as the supreme emblem of imperial administration and religiosity lifted from the Ancient Mysteries, incorporated into the Abrahamic Faiths, and carried on in both Blue Lodge and High Degree Masonry.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #402d2d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #402d2d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #402d2d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">This book presents a real life “Da Vinci Code/National Treasure” mystery which, until the publication of this book, was previously unknown to history and historians in both the East and West.</span></div>

Ever since she was little, she used to hide behind the rocks in the sea, and watch the human family who spent their summers on that island. Over the years, there was nothing she wished more than to be like them, especially so she could get close to Blake, the human boy who she saw turn into a troubled teenager and then, an unhappy man.<br /><br />Once her dad grew tired of her dreams and hopes for a reality that is not her own, Arianna is thrown into an arranged marriage, and her only way out of it is to make a deal with the power-hungry man who will give her everything that she has ever dreamed of. Dreams that turn into nightmares as she watches Blake’s world fall apart, because of her and Blake’s inability to control their desires for one another.<br /><br />Due to sexual content and language, this book is recommended for 17+<br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">Over the past two weeks, I have been living and
breathing almost nothing but <a href="http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001WNiI_gnJIPVMnUQgYIRFi_1L7SN85e5122uPjNPTRe7HNK5EFdYdPVgJM4BYK3IRor7pEAQyrOinmiIlMAoU8l4uSPR6pl66"><span style="color: #0026f8;">Kickstarter</span></a>. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">I launched a campaign to fund the publication of
my third novel, Vuto, on April 9th after about a week and a half of research
and tweaks to my project. I set a goal of $3,000 to cover publication costs and
figured it would be a challenge to meet that goal - but not an impossibility.
The outcome thus far has exceeded my expectations to say the least!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">By my ninth day, I had met and then exceeded that
goal.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">The speed with which this happened shocked me -
despite my daily efforts to get my Kickstarter out to friends, family and fans,
the statistics I had seen in my research noted that fiction projects
specifically were very difficult to fund on this platform; less than 30% meet
their goals. I was sure I could make at least half of my goal with the help of
family and friends, but I figured the second half from strangers and potential
readers would be more difficult to attain. I was expecting to get down to the
last week of the campaign and dedicating every waking hour to getting to that
$3,000 mark.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">It turns out, that was not the case at all.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">I've compiled the following tips that worked
extremely well for me on this platform and will hopefully benefit the next
fiction writer who aims to use Kickstarter to crowd fund their next book:<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">1. Reach out to friends, family and fans
personally through email and direct messaging.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">This is the #1 way to fund your campaign right
off the bat. I think 95% of my current backers were attracted to the project
and ultimately chose to donate as a result of direct, personal messages. It's
time consuming, but WELL WORTH it! Also, don't restrict the people you message.
When I started out, I was a bit hesitant to reach out to high school friends
and past coworkers I hadn't spoken to offline in many years - but once I got
over that hesitation, those same people ended up being some of my most generous
backers!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">2. Reach out to blogs to feature your Kickstarter
campaign - and blog yourself!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">I was able to secure three posts my first week
and two my second week on various book blogs; I also wrote two blogs for The
Huffington Post and kept people apprised of the project's progress on my own
blog. I additionally set up an IAmA thread on Reddit for people to ask me any
questions at all about my book that my project was funding. I'd suggest lining
up at least two guest blogs or interviews each week your Kickstarter is up to
keep people interested and to draw new viewers in. If you can do this prior to
the launch, even better.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">3. Offer rewards for multiple donation levels,
starting at $1.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">When backers can donate just $1 and get a reward
(even just a postcard and a shout out on the creator's blog), more people will
be willing to donate. Most people have a buck to spare and when they see that
you are rewarding all donation levels starting at $1, some may be more willing
to donate even more than that. I found this out from searching for other
Kickstarter projects that I myself wanted to back - those with rewards starting
at $10 or $15 were off-putting to me, while those with a minimum donation of $1
to $3 made me want to contribute more.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">4. Feature your Kickstarter campaign on all of
your social media platforms.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">You should be posting on Facebook, Twitter,
Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube and your personal website. My web designer friend
was able to make me a button for my home page within the first couple of days
of my launch, directing visitors to my Kickstarter page. I also made sure I
posted all of my project messaging across all of my active social media
platforms on a daily basis.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">5. Search Twitter for hashtags related to the
content of your book.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">While there are some people who believe tweeting
to strangers to promote a crowd funding campaign is not a best practice, my
experience has proven otherwise. My book, Vuto, takes place in Malawi, Africa;
it centers on a Malawian woman and a female Peace Corps volunteer; and I would
consider it to be in the Women's Fiction category. Thus, I searched for
hashtags including #Malawi, #Africa, #women, #PeaceCorps and #amreading. Not
only did I use these hashtags in my tweets about my Kickstarter, but I also
tweeted to individuals who were utilizing such hashtags. I definitely garnered
some followers and donations using this method.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">I would be remiss not to mention the incredible
support Rocket Science Productions (RSP) has provided me through this process.
Not only has their advice been much appreciated, but RSP also offered one free
eBook of several RSP titles to backers who donated during the first week of the
campaign. This proved to be a great way to get me over my $3,000 goal on the
last day this additional reward was being offered.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13.0pt; mso-bidi-font-family: Verdana;">I am still learning more as my campaign continues
- it ends the morning of May 9th. I'm excited about sharing more tips and
tricks with my fellow authors and hope to be a source of advice to anyone who
decides to use Kickstarter in the future.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

She has an annoying little sister and a large list of expectations to live up to. She’s starting high school and has to learn the ropes some way or another. She may have expected all this homework and a gigantic book bag, but she never expected to bump into Jaysen Jackson the senior.<br /><br />Jaysen Jackson is failing high school; or at least that’s what he wants to do. However, that may be a hard task to accomplish with his father being the superintendent of the school district and his father’s girlfriend being the principal of the high school. When he manages to bump into Callie, the interesting new freshman, he realizes that some of his hatred for ninth graders might not be as big as he once thought it was.<br /><br />With Callie gaining new friends and enemies and Jaysen reconnecting with older ones, high school seems to be flying by for the both of them. They discover that some things in life aren’t so bad when you have someone to push while you pull. But, when two people are trying so hard to help each other, someone is bound to get hurt.</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #402d2d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">One of the most pivotal events in the Bible occurred in a Garden. God placed Adam and Eve in a garden. It is in the context of a garden that we too can examine God’s care of us and how gardening principles applied in our own lives can allow each of us to reap the bountiful harvest God intends.<br /><br />Sometimes we need to recognize when pruning may be necessary to promote better growth. Other times may require that we weed out a few things or even better establish our roots to bring about the changes that will promote us on our proper path.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #402d2d; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br />There are times in our lives we may each need a bit of Miracle Grow and at others we may need more Pest Control. Sometimes we may have to endure stormy weather and at others we require help navigating our clear skies.<br /><br />No matter what season you may be in, <i>God and the Garden</i> will help you explore how to make the most of it. Topics such as reaping and sowing, being fruitful and digging deep will prompt you to search yourself and seek God’s very best.<br /><br />Man may plant or work the land but it is truly God who makes a garden grow. You don’t have to wait for another season. There are changes you can make in your own personal “garden” right now. Reap. Sow. Weed. Prune.<br /><br />Bloom where you are planted <i>now</i>. </span></div>

<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I want to
tell him the truth, that I don’t regret it, that I’d rather have had one day
with him than none at all, but the words don’t come out at first.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I take a deep breath and I know that I
have to lie.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I have to push him as
far away from me as I can, because I have no other option.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So I focus on the part that I do
regret.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I focus on the fact that
when offered my dreams to be made true, consequences didn’t even cross my
mind.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Not just consequences to
myself, but I also never once stopped to think about how my choices would
impact those around me, how they would impact him.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">All I can
think is that my next words are going to shatter everything that both of us
have lived for in the past few weeks.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: center; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">***<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">There was only one thing that I ever wished for: to
be human.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I always felt like I
didn’t belong.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>My dad used to tell
me stories about the human world and how lucky I was to live in a place even
humans considered magical.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I used
to believe that to be true.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Everything seemed so fun: swimming all day, seeing the different colors
around, and exploring the ships that ended up on the bottom of the ocean.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>One day, I stopped feeling like that.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">My dad and I lived near an island, which seemed to be
owned by one family only; after all, they were always the only ones there.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Every summer when they came, I would
swim as close to the island as I could and hide behind the rocks to watch
them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I wasn’t trying to be
creepy, I was just curious about their world.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Years ago, when I was eleven years old, I was hiding
behind the rocks when I saw the boy who looked a little older than me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He seemed so mad.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I saw a woman coming out of the house
yelling, ‘Blake!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He didn’t mean
it!’<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The boy just ignored her and ran toward the other
side of the island.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That was the
day my life changed.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I hated what
I was because I wanted to go after him and see if he was okay, but I couldn’t.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">All I could do was swim back as fast as I could and
hide in one of the wrecked ships that wasn’t too far away from my home.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I was so mad about what I was and how
limited I was because of it, that I didn’t want to see anyone.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I finally decided to go home when it started to get
dark.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was only a matter of time
before dad decided to send the whole kingdom to look for me.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">On the way back, I ran into my friend Desiree.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Like me, she liked to watch the humans
every once in a while.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>She came to
tell me the humans were leaving and to ask if I wanted to watch them go.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I told her I had to get back and that
was it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; line-height: 150%; text-align: left; text-indent: 0.3in;">
<span style="font-family: Arial;">That was the last time I saw him that summer, but
they always came back.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Year-after-year, I watched the boy come back to the island.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I knew that whenever he was alone, he
was the saddest being I had ever seen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>I also knew that there were a few things that always made him smile.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He loved reading and writing, spending
time with his younger brother, and years later, his little sister. I caught
myself laughing with them several times, as he played with her at the
beach.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>And then there was this
year, the most horrible year of my life… the year I turned eighteen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That was when I saw him with a
girl, both lying down on a blanket at the beach, and I felt things that I had
never felt before.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When he leaned
on top of her and I saw his lips touching hers, I wanted to be that girl.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I wanted to have legs instead of a
stupid tail. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I wanted to be the
one he kissed. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

I’ve been seeing more and more stories in the media about terrible accidents
and injuries caused by texting and driving, so I wanted to incorporate that
message into a book in some way. As I wrote it during NaNoWriMo 2012, however,
that message became overshadowed by the serious stories each of my characters
were dealing with at the time they became involved in the car accident that was
caused by a text. Now, it’s not so much a cautionary tale about texting while
driving as it is a character-driven story in which that message is only one
small factor.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div>

"research." As for the ample amount of characters I chose to include,
all of their individual accounts of the crash and their back stories just sort
of came to me as I was writing, very organically. When I finished the first
draft, I was actually surprised by what I had made the characters do and have
happen to them. I almost felt like this story came from someone else!<o:p></o:p></span></i></div>

few negatives things that I have to say about it is that it took away from my
being able to get to know and enjoy my characters like I usually do. Do
you think that NaNoWriMo limits what 'could be' in terms of research and
character development or is that something which can be easily fixed during the
revision process when you have more time to go back and add to the story?<o:p></o:p></span></div>

NaNoWriMo challenge simply because it forces you to write, write, write and not
to worry about editing as you do, which leaves you with a pretty nice sized
rough draft at the end of the 30 days. Because of the need to not edit,
however, there are tons of details, especially character details, that need to
be added and fleshed out in the weeks and months post-challenge. I am sure
there are some writers who prefer to get those details down on the first run.
In my writing, however, I find the revision process post-first draft to be a
fine time to go back to the beginning and get into the nitty-gritty of it all.
Oftentimes, it takes me the entirety of the first draft to really get a feel
for who I want my characters to be, so this method works really well for me.</span></i><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><span style="font-family: Times;"><o:p></o:p></span></i></div>

The Kayla from before she learned about this world, was gone. She was already attached to some of their kind and I could see that she felt as if it was her responsibility to protect them all, the haunted and the fallen. She was starting to put them before her in every decision she made. It started sometime before we left the Academy where her father is in charge. After her incubus half-brother and his allies attacked the Academy, we managed to leave and take shelter here. Only, everything about this place is completely different. Many of the beings that live here have earned back the privilege of being full-blooded angels. Well, some say that is a privilege; others see it as a curse. Either way, the place itself had already started to become my very own curse. From the moment Kayla stepped foot in this place, I could see her change complete faster and faster. This Academy was giving her the confidence to be who she was meant to be, and deep down, I knew it was only a matter of time before I would no longer be needed in her life. It may sound selfish, but as Kayla started her journey to save those who were left behind, I was fighting for her. I was fighting to be worthy of a Nephilim.</div>

<span style="font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">Elissa Burr was born in New Jersey in 1975. Growing up, she was always
very artistic and decided to attend college at the University of Kentucky in
their Architecture program. After graduation, she spent a year traveling the
world. She has been to 14 countries and over 40 of the United States. When she
realized that working at an architecture firm and attending school for
architecture were vastly different, she decided to pursue her art again. Elissa
then went on to receive her BFA from Georgia State University, and graduated in
2005 Suma Cum Laude. It was shortly after her graduation that she was diagnosed
with Fibromyalgia. This debilitating disease kept Elissa almost completely
bedridden for 3 years and kept her from working on her ceramics. Even though
she couldn’t be a ceramicist at that time, she found other ways to
satisfy her artistic needs including writing.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></div>
